From the desk of Oreobuilder:

Bucky, Dusty79, and I are teaming for a new joint project. This time, we also enlisted the help of another customizer: Dusty79. Between the three of us, we set out to imagine what a fresh new GI Joe line would look like for 2015. New characters, new takes on old favorites and cool vehicles, our project has them.

If we can get our ducks in a row, we are aiming to roll this project out everyday of the month starting July 1st. So stay tuned. In the meantime, to give you a taste, here is a fun teaser video that Bucky put together.”

SPOTLIGHT: Project New Sculpt (by Oreobuilder and Bucky)

CustomsSpotlight1

For the last two weeks, the ambitious customizing team of Bucky and Oreobuilder, have wowed us with another massive customs project. This time, they went back to the New-Sculpt era of GI Joe and revisited some memorable characters… and some not so familiar. Follow the links below to see more of this massive undertaking!

From the desk of Oreobuilder:

“When Bucky approached me in September with the idea of doing a New Sculpt Event, I took to the idea immediately. It was an idea that I had been kicking around for some time. … I’m really happy with how this project came out. I was afraid that by juggling both Project New Sculpt and the 50th Anniversary Tribute, one or both projects would suffer. However, I found that by doing both simultaneously, I could switch projects when I was losing steam on one. … More importantly, working with a partner for the first time was a terrific experience. We could bounce ideas of each other, critique each other’s work and motivate the other to keep going. It was so much fun that we have already started brainstorming our next joint project!”

From Bucky’s workbench:

“This is the most amount of customs I have ever done at once, in this short of period of time. … My basement was a complete and utter disaster for most of the time, though I now have systems in place to keep it better organized… I literally would have dreams about the project and sometimes couldn’t sleep as I kept “kit bashing” in my head while trying to doze off. Some of my better ideas came up while trying to fall asleep. … I’m currently thinking of a way to top this.”

CUSTOMS: “Ultimate” POC Duke (by Bucky)

Customs (use this one)

Customizer Bucky presents us with his version of Ultimate Duke, Pursuit of Cobra edition.

Duke catches alot of flack on Joe forums for the way he is portrayed in the cartoon, some comics, and the movie. I don’t get it. Sure, it shoved down people’s throats that he is basically Captain America when it comes to Joes, but that’s the point of Duke. He’s the All American soldier, he bleeds Red White and Blue, does what is right, no matter the cost, to keep his country safe. He is the ultimate soldier. He doesn’t need ninja skills, or heavy weapons, or to drive a tank. He gets the job done through sheer determination, grit, and will. He doesn’t care how big or how little he is, and he doesn’t give a damn.

CUSTOMS: Dart (by Bucky)

Customs  Comments Off on CUSTOMS: Dart (by Bucky)
Jul 092013

From the workshop of Bucky:

“Here’s Dart. One of the best of the New Sculpt era, and a fine character to boot. I remember being pretty stoked when I originally got him, the Duke/Ripper pack, and Wild Bill pack back in 02/03. Not sure of the year. I really liked him though.

There are several characters that don’t get alot of recognition from that era that I am currently making plans for. Dart had to be the first out of the gates though.

I have had him on my radar for awhile, and had a couple of false starts with him. Mostly due to size, and skin tone. I HATE painting flesh tones. To me, it never looks right. Rock has that skin tone that’s not quite white, not quite black, and when washed with a watered down “leather” color, looked native American enough for me. I picture Dart as a rather tall guy.. might just be due to the original seeming bigger than most figures coming out at that time.”
