[CUSTOMS] ARAH Shockwave (Siege Breaker) by Dark Perceptor

Customs  Comments Off on [CUSTOMS] ARAH Shockwave (Siege Breaker) by Dark Perceptor

“The Siege Breakers are the GI Joe’s tactical urban infiltration team; composed of men and women who specialize in urban combat using stealth, subterfuge, sabotage, and guerrilla warfare in cities occupied by Cobra’s Dominion Forces.”

“I’ve wanted to do a Shockwave custom for what seems like forever… he has always been one of my favorite figures from the ARAH era. So when I set out to make an urban squad, Shockwave was a must-include… his SWAT background and DEF experience make him an ideal member of the Siege Breakers. For this custom, I started with his original bulky torso and a similar color scheme to Wreckage… but after a “short” break, I decided that he’d look too much like his Nightforce or Convention counterparts and set about to make some changes. I thought the Marauders vest would be ideal for a door-kicker, and so neeeded a slimmer torso to accomodate the vest. AVAC’s torso not only fit the size requirements, but gives the look of an armored BDU, imo. (hey, i’m no expert, lol) Then I decided to go with urban camo, just because I need to do more camo… and I think it turned out alright. There’s one or two tweaks I’d like to go back and do… but for now, it’s on to the next piece. Thanks for looking, I hope you enjoy. “

[CUSTOMS] ARAH – Jungle Ops Leatherneck (by Dark Perceptor)

custom customs

From the desk of Dark Perceptor:

“Here’s my latest addition to my Jungle Operations customs (all of two now, lol)… Leatherneck! Another older WIP, he started as a Major Barrage custom but the plans got scrapped when I got a fresh infusion of o-ring fodder, and Leatherneck was born. This custom also marks a bit of a milestone for me, as I previously had yet to attempt painting camo patterns. All in all, I am fairly happy with how he turned out, though I am already toying with a couple ideas to improve the figure… Thanks for looking, and as usual, your comments are welcomed. “

March – Featured Syndicate Customizer (Part 2): Tim 121RVC

News  Comments Off on March – Featured Syndicate Customizer (Part 2): Tim 121RVC
Mar 212014

frontpage spotlight

From the desk of Dark Perceptor:

“Here we go, with the second half of March’s Featured Customizer… another genius o-ring customizer (here at the Syndicate, we like to hoard them): Tim 121 RVC!

First name: Read Inside…

Age: Read Inside…

Where you live: Read Inside…

1) What made you want to start customizing?

One of the first times I was on the net I started to search for G.I.Joe, because that was the only way to complete my ARAH collection. Somehow a came across Joecustoms and I was in shock. I never took a figure apart before, and these guys did do that AND they painted them. Crazy, but very intriguing as well because it widened my G.I.Joe horizon. Started with LBC-ing at first, but it didn’t take long before I got my hands on some paint and a few brushes.

2) Which custom of yours is your pride and joy?

Every custom has a little feature/story/new technique that I like, so I find it hard to pick just one. That would feel like I’m failing all the other ones and all the work I put into them. But to name a few:
Il Nero for the suitcase, Range Viper for the camo scheme, He-man for childhood memories, Shaka Zulu for the use of Max’s head, Gikan for the custom naginata, Rattle B.A.T. because LBC’s are easy and fun, Rudarius because I’m interested in history.”

March – Featured Syndicate Customizer (Part 1), Rambo

Spotlight  Comments Off on March – Featured Syndicate Customizer (Part 1), Rambo

frontpage spotlight

From the cold, very cold desk of Dark Perceptor:

“To make up for lost time, this month we’re doing a double shot of Featured Customizers… and they both just happen to be o-ring masters in their own right!

First up is a quiet brother from South America, who usually prefers to let his customs speak for him. Let’s hear it for Rambo!

First name:
Read inside…

Age: Read inside…

Where you live: Read inside…

1) What made you want to start customizing?

Basically to not find your favorite characters in toy form, i.e. Ninja Gayden. And of course as a kid, I’d have killed for all the characters in O-ring form. Then, when I was an adult, I think it was www.evilface.com. This guy had all those cool customs of Joes, Cobras and Non-Joe characters in his page that made me hungry for Action heroes and villians in O-ring form.
But if I am a customizer it is LIVEVIL’s fault. When I discovered his customs, I knew I would like a lot of customs made by him, but as I found later, making a custom, ONE SINGLE CUSTOM takes its time. Livevil accepted to make for me Rambo and Colonel Trautman at the time, so I decided to try myself at customizing. First LBCs, then some little enamel painting, then Tamiya acrylics paints, epoxic, the internet, some good friends and I am here wondering if I would be able to accomplish something like Sean Wang is doing these days.”

From the desk of Dark Perceptor:

“I started making this custom last year, while finishing my Arctic version of Spirit. I initially wanted to “unveil” the two together, but hit a wall with the direction I wanted to go with, and the project fell to the bottom of the WIP bag. A whole year later, with renewed enthusiasm for customizing, I am proud to finally share with you all my Jungle version of Spirit Iron-Knife. I hope you enjoy!”

From the desk of Dark Perceptor, this week’s guest host:

Note that we’ve changed the rules.

You no longer have to be a member of OG13 prior to the start of the contest to enter to win.

Staff are eligible to win this weeks contest.

Winners will still be announced on Wednesday nights at approximately 8PM EST.

HOW TO ENTER

This week the Dark One has asked for all of you to delve into your creative depths and show us your macabre side.

You are going to kill a Cobra Trooper (Blue Shirt)

To enter to win, describe or show us the death of a Cobra Trooper.

For our authors write a death scene. Or you can build a dio. You can shoot some one shot photography.

Any media is permissible – but the stipulation is that we have to look at the entry or read the story and be able to understand how the Trooper died.

A custom of a bullet ridden Cobra Trooper is cool – but doesn’t tell us a story.

Be creative – Be Original – Be a little Nuts!!!

From the desk of Byrnes:

“First of all, I would like to say thank you to all those involved in this contest. From the participants, to the folks who supported and voted. A huge thank you to one of the I.C.O.N leaders Chief CWO for sponsoring the event, putting up some incredible prizes and another shout out to OG13.com staff: Darkwise, Flint, Nerdsgetschicks, Lowlight27 & crew, and the other I.C.O.N. leader Steel for the support in spreading the word and helping us promote the event.

With that said, please welcome me in congratulating the following on finishing in the top 3 of voting:

1st Place: Llucz. He put up the first entry in this contest and set the bar. His take on the Cobra Zombie Icecream Man and Cart was a real eye popping and brain melting experience for us all. Llucz has put himself in the ranks of the best with this one. A first place finish for a well deserving custom. Congrats on a beautiful piece!

2nd Place: Dark Perceptor. Would you believe me if I told you this was his first custom? We’ll he certainly came out with six shooters in hand because he made this Wild Bill with Locust Mark II look simply amazing. A very clean fan favorite of the Joe universe. Future contests will have to be on the look out for this new customizer! Excellent work Dark Perceptor!

3rd Place: punchitchewy80 & iDz Bowl (Tie)

punchitchewy80 came out full throttle, leaving others buried in the sand with this Dusty and Sandstorm ATV 4 wheeler. His gritty and real life look to this custom put him in the running with a great version of this Joe. Thanks for showing the custom world your skills and thanks for a fantastic custom!

iDz Bowl hit us with a brutal and complex custom of TREX and Dinomech RagerTank. As always this seasoned customizer pulled all the bells and whistles out for an unbelievable custom that is very original and unique. Thank you for taking us on a journey to another world. We bow down to you General TREX as well as you iDz Bowl!

The I.C.O.N. Choice Award will be announced at a later date. Stay tuned.
