Great news for all lovers of writing, and reading, G.I. Joe centered fan fiction. Amazon.com has opened the doors to Joe, and other, verse based publishing of fan fiction for aspiring and noted authors.

SEATTLE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–(NASDAQ: AMZN)—Today, Amazon Publishing announced that Kindle Worlds has reached licensing agreements to open up seven new Worlds, including Worlds based on Hasbro’s iconic G.I. JOE brand, and Warner Bros. TV shows Veronica Mars and Pretty Little Liars’ spinoff Ravenswood. Writers can now choose from more than 20 Worlds to write and sell their own original fiction inspired by popular characters and storylines. These Worlds will open for writers to start publishing stories in the next few months.

“Since 1964, G.I. JOE has inspired the imagination of multiple generations by providing a backdrop of excitement and adventure. Whether exploring the secrets of the mummy’s tomb, or defending freedom from the evil plots of COBRA, G.I. JOE has been there,” said Michael Kelly, Hasbro’s Director of Global Publishing. “It is with equal excitement that Hasbro now enters a new segment of the business by embracing the concept of open-source storytelling, and officially unlocking the world of G.I. JOE to our fans through Amazon’s Kindle Worlds.”

The new licensing agreement comes at a historic time for the G.I. JOE brand, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2014, since the first G.I. JOE action figure was released in 1964. It has become one of Hasbro’s most enduring and recognizable brands with toys, comics, TV series, films and video games. With the launch of the G.I. JOE World, writers will be able to publish their own original fiction starring iconic G.I. JOE characters like DUKE, SNAKE EYES, and COBRA COMMANDER, and sell their work on Amazon.com.

OG13 AUTHORS, THIS IS VIPER6…PREPARE TO COPY.

Once again in the interest of literacy and promoting the ton of talent here in our little slice of Joe paradise I give you “the Words of Winter” fan fiction contest.

Winter has settled in upon the Joe verse, and its time to craft and share a seasonal tale of your favorite heroes and villains as they brave the elements. In 1,000 words or more (type in word document, check the word count, then paste it here…seriously 999 words could disqualify you in a tie) capture the hardship of the harshest winter, and winter being the season of death….I’m going to need a cold weather causality, a bit of sound winter survival advice, and a featured piece of “snivel”, a.k.a. winter survival gear (submissions without these three elements incorporated, while appreciated; wont be eligible for prizes). Additionally provide us with a unique plot and richly crafted characters, that goes without saying, but really put your pen down for this one folks and see if you can score some sweet prizes!

Contest will run now through Midnight (EST) 15 DEC 12…. so as I can get your prizes out the door prior to the yule time.”

Most apocalyptic worlds are spawned by the inhabitants that live there like a Global Nuclear disaster or viral apocalypse
Desolation was one planet that had no choice in its creation Once a thriving world with endless possibilities and a society that didn’t hinge on war.
Things however can’t stay the same forever…….

A cosmic Intervention had its hand in twisting and warping the very fabric of reality for the creatures of Desolation.

A Sun-storm or Flare of a huge magnitude hit the planet once known as Delta 5 and switching its magnetic poles and disrupting everything on the planet.

Strong Electromagnetic Pulses ram the planet and destroy its electronics and communications, the distortion in the poles creates savagery among the remaining inhabitants.
It becomes a Dog eat Dog world situation were if you are weak death will be swift and direct………….
Fast forward a few hundred generations and Delta 5 is but a memory and Desolation has rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its me Viper6, author of the Crimson Cloth. I’m doing my best to promote fanfics, readerships, and literacy in the JOECOM; check it out…

From now until July 31st write a minimum of 1000 words. You’re only other criteria? Your story should involve the death and dying of a core character from the Joeverse; whether it be betrayal, lovers quarel, classic showdown, killed in combat, unforeseen accident…whatever your twisted minds can conjure.

Post your story here in one continuous post; you may edit said post any time until judging begins, edits after 31 July WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. Judging will occur 01-04 August (PM me if youre interested in being a judge, if you judge, YOU CANT ENTER). Prizes (to be announced) will be awarded for first, second, and third place (I’m no slouch with prizes).

Members of other sites feel free to extend the invite, contest is open to all.

In the interem, find inspiration and entertainment in OG13‘s fanfiction section and invite other authors/readers to the site/forum.
