Syndicate Customs’ Rambo brings us his excellent renditions of The A-Team, in true ARAH style. I pity da foo’ who doesn’t check these out!

“My A-Team customs. After years and years of watching EVILFACE’s version I was finally able to make my own. Hannibal and Murdock are not that original in parts selection but I think I did it well with Face and Mr. T. Something strange I found is that Hannibal got shorter than the rest.”

“Entry for a contest with the subject: Human Form Transformers. Basically, what would Transformers look like in human form? I watched the cartoon a lot as a kid. I remembered Soundwave as the one with that awesome voice (IMO the best cartoon voice in history).”

SPOTLIGHT: Looking Back: G.I. Joe “ARAH” Wave 1

Spotlight Splash (primary)

Every now and then, you stumble across something on the Internet that is too brilliant not to be shared. The toy collector’s community can be an odd thing, with many sites feeling proprietary or selfish with content, with news, and with their very users.
We prefer to spotlight great things, no matter where they come from. When Voice_of_Reason shared this link with us, I knew that we had to front page it to give other users the chance to share in a great little piece of nostalgia for our favourite heroes.
I am not even going to create a thread for it on our site, but just direct all traffic right back to Action Figure Insider, where Danny “CantinaDan” Neumann created the article.

“I saw a great Outback custom at a dealer booth that set the wheels in motion. Not sure who’s it was, but it was a heavy duty roc torso, with dtc outback arms and head. I thought it was a great idea, and decided I wanted to try it, but get away from the Roc torso.”

CONTEST: kwobubba’s Class of ’89 Giveaway!

Contests  Comments Off on CONTEST: kwobubba’s Class of ’89 Giveaway!
Sep 182013

From the bar stool of kwobubba:

So it’s been a while since I’ve done a contest, so I decided to get off my ass and make it happen! One of my favorite years in the ARAH line was 1989. There were some great figures released that year… but the most kickass stuff in the line was the new vipers. I’m of course talking about Alley Viper, Night Viper, Frag Viper, and Heat Viper. These 4, I remember thinking, are the baddest ass cobra figures I’d ever laid my 8 year old eyes upon. To this day, hasbro has never designed a viper that I thought looked as cool as these.

So what’s this contest about? Well, simply to discuss 1989. What were your favorites? Which ones do you want to see modernized? Discuss it [HERE]. That’s all you have to do to be eligible. The contest will end next Wednesday, Sepember 25th. All members are eligible. Once the contest ends, I will put all names in a hat, and draw the winner. Prize will ship within a week of the drawing. But what’s the prize you ask? Well, it’s these two guys. Both these members of the class of ’89 were only recently brought into the modern era, one by our friends at the club, and the other by hasbro after a long nap in the concept vault. Here they are:

CUSTOMS: Freddy Krueger (by Tim 121RVC)

To celebrate Friday the 13th, our brother Tim 121RVC gives us an o-ring version of the master of nightmares himself, Freddy Krueger. Be sure to make the jump below and sound off with your comments!

From the desk of Tim 121RVC:

“I started working on this custom just with memories from my mind. As you can see in the WIP and result, I made a few mistakes. I thought Freddy had two hands with five fingered claws, but it was only the right hand with four claws. I found that out right after I primed the parts. CRAP!…  The claws were cut from a piece of plastic, like the one that’s used on carded figures… Blanka’s head had this great evil grin so I got rid of his hair and tortured the skin to make it look like the scarred Freddy. Did the same thing with that hand too. Painted it and used a wash + red paint to make it look “bloody scarred”.

This was a fun contest. I’ve actually never seen a “Nightmare On Elmstreet” movie, but I am familiar with Krueger. Well, except for his claws, that is……”

Dave Dorman Releasing GI Joe A Real American Hero Art Book

News  Comments Off on Dave Dorman Releasing GI Joe A Real American Hero Art Book
Aug 142013

From codenameflint:

Dave Dorman is releasing a limited edition GI Joe A Real American Art Book. Contained in the book is artwork from the GI Joe Real American Hero toy line. I’m super pumped at the anouncement of this!

Below is information directly from Dorman’s website.

“Between the mid 1980’s thru the early 90’s I had the great pleasure to work with Hasbro toys producing art for in-house use helping create the design of GI Joe action figures. This work was for production only and not intended for reproduction, promotion, or packaging. I have had many fans over the years ask about this art. Because there is continuned interest to this day to see these unpublished pieces, I have taken your wishes and decided to publish some of these in a small book. While there have been a few articles in collector’s magazines and online interviews about this work, and a few scattered publication of a couple of pieces, this will be the first real collection my Hasbro work from this period.

The art featured in the book will be full color paintings produced to make the GI Joe toy figures look as if they would in real life. I will also feature some of the pencil preliminary work that went into my painting preparation. The art covers both Joe and Cobra and some variations of uniforms not produced.

The book is 6″ x 9″ full color with card stock cover, 24 pages including cover. The edition size is limited to 250 copies. All copies are signed by the artist, me, Dave Dorman. I have kept film of these works in my archives, as I do with all of my artworks, and so the reproduction of the art is the best you will find.

I have included the cover and a few interior pieces of art to tease you of what is to come. If you are a GI Joe collector or fan, or just a fan of my work, you will find this book a fun retrospective on a wonderfully creative time in my carreer. “

From the workshop of Tim 121RVC:

“This is my first completely painted custom, I made it about five years ago. A common story: I did like the original Range Viper, but the colours weren’t exactly screaming jungle to me. I found inspiration for the camo in the well known desert camo. I decided to try this in with green instead of tan/brown and I think it turned out pretty good. ”

“Here it is! There is still work to be done, i will probably spend the next two years adding helmets and gear to them, and i will definitely be redoing some of them, but…

They are all standing!

Every ARAH Joe character is here. It might not be their first version, but somewhere between the 1982 group and the 1994 group you will see them.”

Friend of site, brilliant archivist, and  all around awesome  buddy,  Carson (3DJoes) has announced an absolutely phenomenal sale to go towards his down payment on a new home. But why listen to me, when you can listen to the man?

3DJoes:

“I’m buying a house, and I need to sell my 1982-1985 AFA G.I. Joe collection to help with the downpayment.

I’m selling EVERY SINGLE FIGURE from 1982-1985. These 1982-1985 AFA Joes are all on first year peach cards! All o-rings are intact. All cases are still in the AFA plastic. All but four are AFA 80 or better!
